CONGRATULATIONS!!!! 2011 gave us another very successful Siege of Fort Randolph. Cornstalk saw to it that the weather was perfect. We had a great turn out of re-enactors. There were a lot of new faces added to the Fort Family. You know that once at the event you are part of the family and we hope you make us your yearly destination. We are especially appreciative of Parson John and Maggie for gracing us with their presence. Also Frank & Carol Jarboe We hope you will make us your yearly destination also. We had over 250 spectators this year and everything seemed to go well with changing the audience for the inside/outside presentations. We are going to work on more seating as the year progresses. I want to personally thank Joe for stepping in at the last minute to do Captain Arbuckle and hope he takes that little task on a yearly basis. THANKS, you did a great job. Gil you were a life-saver as always, can’t imagine it without your help. So, if you were one of the people who made it out take a minute to pat yourself on the back for such a great job. If you did not make it out you missed a great event. Hope to see you next year. When I went back to work in the pretend world where I have to live sometimes, people asked me how my weekend went and all I could say was “it was perfect, I don’t know how it could have went any better.” Your Most Humble Servant, Barb
EASTERN WOODLAND INDIANS
A big Thank You goes out to Josh & Naomi Wilson on their first year as the chairpersons of the “Eastern Woodland Indians” event. We also had all kinds of blanket trading going on in the fort and the “So You Want To Be A Re-enactor” workshop going on. We had several people show interest in what we do and have hopes that they will come back and participate.
Thanks to everyone who helped!!!!!
THE MARY INGLES TRAIL ASSOCIATES 18TH CENTURY LIVING HISTORY ENCAMPMENT SEPTEMBER 16-18, 2011 The Mary Ingles Trail Associates (MITA) conducts a special historical education event annually in September. The living history encampment and dramatic presentations are designed to present 18th century life- ways of the several cultures that inhabited the region throughout the 18th century, with special emphasis on Mary Ingles. Please be aware that we have a change of dates for 2011! For a second year, MITA is pleased to work with our new partner, WV State Parks at Beech Fork State Park for our 23rd season. The dates of this year’s camp are September 16 – September 18, 2011. No, this is not a mistake. The weekend is truly scheduled for One Weekend Earlier than our traditional week of 22 years. This will allow our quality re-enactor friends to enjoy and lend their talents to both Mary Ingles and Boonesboro. September 16th is set aside for home schools only. Children will spend their day engaged with our living historians learning 18th century life skills. September 17th and 18th are for the general public. Weekend days feature living-history demonstrations as well as special dramatic presentations. Firewood, water and restrooms/showers are provided. The MITA strive for accuracy in all elements of our presentations. We bring history to life based on quality documentation from our specific time period (1750 – 1780) and region (the Virginia Frontier) to educate, entertain, & enrich. Your persona, costume, camp, sales items, and educational demonstration should reflect the highest quality and pride in our 23rd year of Living History Education. While MITA is striving toward ‘perfection’ in our representations based on quality research, we also understand our modern-lifestyle limitations and also want to remain beginner-friendly. Period lifeways demonstrations are required of all camps to maintain the educational emphasis of our event, and we will be glad to work with beginners who may be unsure of their hidden talents. Sutlers in camp must demonstrate, and they may sell their period-appropriate wares in a manner that does not interfere with the educational emphasis of the event. Modern vendors will be outside the camp area and are not required to demonstrate an 18thC life skill. There is no vendor fee. To maintain the highest quality, living historians, presenters, demonstrators, and sutlers must be Board approved. If you have been a part of our living history encampment before, consider this your invitation. If you have not previously been a part of our encampment, please contact any of the Board members, Scott Fairchild (304-382-1399 or Fairchild1755@peoplepc.com), Sarah Dyson (859-684-7509 or lizziebeth8604@yahoo.com), Dianne Anestis (304-755-0440 or mdi1755@yahoo.com), and Amy Fairchild (304-550-2876 or MaryInglesTrail@yahoo.com) so that we can get to know you! (Board approval is not nearly as daunting as it sounds.) Finally, if you know someone new who you think would enrich our camp and add variety, please contact any Board member with your recommendations. See us on the Web: www.maryinglestrail.org
