A Note From Agatha

I take pen in hand to say Hello and to let you know all goes well here at Fort Randolph and the Frogg Trading Post.

A few weekends ago was the Long-hunter’s & Land-grabber’s weekend.  I am happy to report, we were very busy, the turnout was great, everyone had a wonderful time.

For those of you that couldn’t make it you were very much missed.

Barb & Margaret Bing were quite productive as the kitchen and outhouses received a long over due cleaning.

While Betty Rimmey and myself tackled the trading post.  I must say, the hard work that was done was very pleasing.  I am glad to gain new helpers too.  It’s nice to have new companions to work and chat with.

I’m finding the long hours of summer to be toiling and look forward to the fall months that are just around the corner as I seem to have more time to catch up on some of my sewing.

I will soon have to stock up on candles for the dark winter days ahead.

Autumn is my most favorite time of the year.  The leaves changing colors, warm fires at night and hot cider.

We had a picnic here at the fort and those who came had a great time.  We will have a group of Gulf Stream campers coming to the fort on Sept. 18th if anyone can come please do so.

Our next big event at the fort is the Harvest Fest with the Iron Chef Cook-off and All Hallows Eve.  We will gather in the tavern to tell stories and those of you who have some good ones are invited to come and tell them.  We will have pot-luck for supper so bring something if you can.

We are also taking the trading post and tavern to the point for Battle Days on October 1 thru 3.  We will set up on Thursday, Sept. 30th so we can be ready for all the school kids first thing on Friday morning.  We are asking anyone who can come to help please contact Craig, Cindi Crowe or Barb for any more information.  We would like to have you come and pitch a tent on the point or you can make arrangements to stay at the fort overnight.

I hope to see you soon at the trading post or on the point.  It is always good to hear news from the surrounding areas.

Mrs. Agatha Frogg

“Eastern Woodland Indians Gathering”

Another BIG Thank You goes out to Josh & Naomi Wilson.  They have agreed to spearhead the Eastern Woodland Indian Gathering to be held on June 3, 4 & 5, 2011.

This event is held to showcase the Native Americans who lived in this area.  Demonstrators and speakers are being scheduled to educate both the public who come out and to help us re-enactors learn a little more about our Native American history.

During this weekend we will also have the third annual Trade Faire going on inside the fort.  This is a good weekend to come out and stock up on supplies from the vendors who come out to sell their wares at the fort.

We are always in need of more Indians so if you know someone who hasn’t come to the fort before please invite them or pass on their name to the Wilson’s so they can get in touch with them.  Lordwilson83@yahoo.com

Harvest Fest/All-Hallows Eve

October 30th, 2010 will be our third annual All-Hallows Eve event following a day of celebrating Harvest Fest.

Dr. Dan J. Brammer Surgeon, 13th Va. Regiment will be our guest speaker this year.

We will again have the Iron Chef Cook-Off.  If you have a very favorite authentic recipe come  out and cook it over the open fire, we will have prizes for the winners and you can place your dish in the pot-luck for dinner.

We will close the gates, have our dinner and open up again around 7:00 pm to gather in the tavern with stories.  If you would like to tell a story please let Craig or Barb know.

Battle Days

October 1-3, 2010

Last year we took the trading post over to the point during their annual Battle Days celebration.

This year we are once again taking the trading post to the point and we are taking the tavern over too.

We would like to see as many people come and set up tents and do demonstrations for the public.  We want to make a nice historical area on the point.

If you don’t want to set up a tent you are welcome to stay the night at the fort and just hang out on the point during the day in costume and help out selling goods or food and drinks at the trading post and tavern.

For more information or just to let us know you are coming you can contact Craig Hesson, Cindi Crowe or Barb Kemper.

Thank You

We would like to take a moment to thank Robert Casto for all the work he has done in the blacksmith shop this year.

He has made us several things to use in our efforts in cooking meals for the group, especially the toaster, can’t wait to use that myself.

He has also made some whistles out of deer antlers for sale in the trading post.
